Product Overview
Every water service needs a shutoff that crews can reach without digging. That is the job of a curb stop valve: it sits on the buried service line under a curb box and closes with a curb key from ground level. The Cambridge Brass 202NL uses a full-port brass ball and compression ends for copper or CTS poly, in 3/4" to 2".
Inside the 202NL Curb Stop
- Full-port ball: the open valve leaves flow unrestricted, so the shutoff doesn't narrow the service line.
- Quarter-turn head: a 90° operating head takes the valve from fully open to fully closed with low turning effort.
- Shuts off both ways: it seals from either direction and is rated for 300 PSI working pressure.
- Sealed stem: a blowout-proof stainless steel stem with double O-rings keeps line pressure away from the operating head.
- Grip at each end: an EPDM compression seal with an embedded stainless steel gripper ring seals the pipe and resists pull-out.
- Copper contact: a brass conductivity spring moulded into each seal gives electrical contact with copper tubing.
How a Curb Stop Valve Works
Picture the service line running from the water main to the building. The curb stop sits on that line underground, and a curb box rises above it to ground level. To stop the water, lower a curb key down the curb box, fit it on the operating head, and give it a quarter turn.
CTS Size and Fit Chart
Pick the brass curb stop valve size by the pipe's outside diameter (OD), not its nominal size, so measure the OD first. Both ends are the same size. Copper type K or L tubing and CTS poly pipe rated SDR-9 share these ODs, so this copper curb stop fits either one. CTS and IPS fittings are not interchangeable: PVC and IPS poly pipe are larger and need the IPS compression curb stop.

Putting It in the Ground
These points come from the Cambridge Brass instructions for compression ends and curb stops.
- Make a square, clean cut with a tube cutter, not a hacksaw, and slide a stainless steel CTS insert stiffener into the plastic pipe.
- Push the pipe all the way in, then tighten until the nut bottoms against the body shoulder.
- Put the wrench on the flats only, and hold the valve body with a second wrench.
- Pressure test before backfilling, then backfill and compact the soil with care.
