Helly Hansen's Workwear

Helly Hansen has been making professional workwear since 1877, when sea captain Helly Juell Hansen and his wife Margrethe started producing oilskin jackets and trousers in Moss, Norway, to protect Norwegian sailors from North Sea weather. The first product won an award at the 1878 Paris World Exhibition. 148 years later, the brand is still headquartered in Norway and is owned by Kontoor Brands (the parent of Wrangler and Lee), which acquired Helly Hansen for $1.3 billion in June 2025 from Canadian Tire Corporation, Helly Hansen's previous owner from 2018 to 2025.

Cleanflow stocks 93 Helly Hansen workwear pieces across the full catalog from waterproof Helly Tech® shell jackets and PrimaLoft®-insulated winter parkas to Lifaloft™ insulated coveralls, hi-vis CSA-rated outerwear, FR-rated rainwear, Polartec® fleece mid-layers, LIFA® thermal base layers, and the Service and Construction work pant lines.

Cleanflow stocks the full Helly Hansen Workwear range across five working categories. Whichever job you're dressing for, start here.

Outerwear

Helly Tech® shell jackets, PrimaLoft® and Lifaloft™ insulated winter parkas, Polartec® fleece, and the Heritage pile line in coverall and bib overall form built for cold-weather trades, outdoor labour, and Canadian winter construction. The Work Jackets collection is the most-shopped piece, with the Coveralls and Overalls, Bib Overalls, and Parkas rounding out the cold-weather lineup.

Work pants and shorts

Two pant programs cover most of the working week. The Service line is lighter and built for utility, manufacturing, and trades work. Oxford 4X stretch fabric, reflective piping, OEKO-TEX® certified. The Construction line (Oxford 77467 and Chelsea Evolution 77551) goes heavier on knee-pad pockets, hanging pockets, and 4-way mechanical stretch for harder trades.

Hi-vis safety workwear

CSA-rated outerwear for road construction, emergency response, utilities, and any outdoor work where reflective compliance matters. The Hi-Vis Jackets collection covers shells and insulated; Hi-Vis Rain Wear, Winter Hi-Vis Coveralls, and Winter Hi-Vis Pants handle wet conditions, sub-zero temperatures, and ANSI Class E sizing.

Flame-resistant workwear

FR-rated apparel for oil and gas, electrical utility, and welding work where arc flash or flash fire is part of the hazard profile. Cleanflow stocks both FR Rainwear and FR Shirts pair them with non-FR base and mid-layers from the lineup below.

Base layers and accessories

Helly Hansen invented the technical base layer in 1970 with LIFA®, and the Thermal Underwear line is still the foundation of the brand's three-layer system. Round it out with Hoodies and Sweaters for mid-layer warmth, Vests for core insulation without sleeve bulk, and Industrial Rainwear or Bags and Backpacks to complete the kit.

Helly Hansen Work Jacket Type Comparison

Five jacket types cover different weather conditions and work scenarios. Use this table to find the right fit for your job:

Jacket Type Weather Range Best For
Insulated Winter Work Jacket -30°C to +5°C / -22°F to 41°F Cold-weather construction, outdoor labor, winter trades
Shell Work Jacket (Hardshell) Rain, wind, wet snow (any temp with layers) All-season weather protection over insulating layers
Softshell Work Jacket +5°C to +20°C / 41°F to 68°F, light rain Active work, milder weather, shoulder seasons
Fleece Work Jacket 0°C to +15°C / 32°F to 59°F (dry conditions) Mid-layer under shell, or standalone in cool dry weather
Pile Work Jacket (Heritage) 0°C to +10°C / 32°F to 50°F Heritage-style outerwear, EN 14058 cold-weather rated

Most professionals own at least two of these — typically a fleece or softshell for active work and a shell jacket for weather protection. A complete year-round system pairs an insulated winter jacket for the cold months with a softshell or fleece for shoulder seasons.

FAQs

What's the difference between a shell jacket and a softshell jacket?

Shell jackets (hardshells) are fully waterproof and windproof but typically less breathable and less flexible. Softshells are water-repellent and more breathable but not waterproof in sustained rain. For all-weather job sites, choose a shell; for active work in milder conditions, choose a softshell.

Should I choose an insulated work jacket or pair a shell with a fleece?

An insulated work jacket gives you a single all-in-one solution for cold weather and is easier to manage on the job site. Pairing a shell with a fleece is more versatile across temperature ranges and lets you adjust warmth as conditions change. Most professionals own both: an insulated jacket for the coldest months and a shell-plus-fleece system for the rest of the year.

What does the Helly Tech® rating on a jacket mean?

Helly Tech® is Helly Hansen's proprietary waterproof/breathable membrane, available in three levels. Helly Tech® Protection is rated to ~5,000-10,000 mm waterproof for everyday weather. Performance is ~10,000-15,000 mm for active outdoor work. Professional is 20,000+ mm for the harshest conditions. All three are seam-sealed and breathable.

How do I size a Helly Hansen work jacket?

Helly Hansen work jackets generally fit true to size, but consider what you'll wear underneath: shell jackets need room for a fleece or sweater layer, while insulated and fleece jackets are designed to be worn directly over base layers. Check each product page for specific sizing charts. If you're between sizes and plan to layer, size up.

Are Helly Hansen work jackets certified for high-visibility or cold-weather work?

Several models in this collection carry specific certifications. The Heritage 72180 Pile and Manchester 2.0 fleece jackets are EN 14058 Class 2 rated for cool-environment protection. The Manchester 2.0 softshell line is OEKO-TEX® approved for chemical safety. For Hi-Vis CSA-rated jackets, see Cleanflow's separate Hi-Vis Jackets collection.
