Description

Standard Duty Lever Chain Hoist from 3/4 to 3 Ton with 5 ft or 10 ft Lift

Overview

Most lever hoists are too long to operate in a tight ceiling cavity or between close-set beams. The JET VLP lever chain puller uses a short 12-inch lever that fits where larger hoists cannot. Grade 80 alloy steel chain, galvanized internals, and a dual pawl brake rated to ASME B30.21 standards. Available from 3/4 to 3 ton capacity with 5 ft or 10 ft lift.

Key Features

  • Grade 80 Alloy Steel Chain. Heat-treated Grade 80 chain handles the rated load with margin to spare. Each VLP lever chain puller is load tested to 150% of its rated capacity before it ships. Use only genuine JET Grade 80 replacement chains.
  • Dual Pawl Brake with 5x Pad Life. Two independent pawls engage the brake mechanism for redundant load holding. The non-asbestos brake discs last five times longer thantraditional pads, which reduces maintenance intervals on hoists that see daily use.
  • Galvanized Internals. The chain, hub, lever switch, and inside plates are galvanized to resist corrosion. This makes the VLP a strong choice as a compact lever chain hoist for outdoor work, wet environments, and coastal jobsites.
  • Short Lever for Confined Spaces. The 12-inch lever (on 3/4 T models) reaches into ceiling cavities, between joists, and around ductwork where full-length lever hoists cannot operate. Larger capacity models use proportionally longer levers for the additional force required.
  • Stamped Steel Housing. A stamped steel gear case and brake cover protect the lever chain hoist from dust, debris, and impact damage on active jobsites.
  • ASME B30.21 Compliant. Manufactured in an ISO 9001-2000 certified factory and compliant with ASME B30.21, the safety standard for manually operated lever hoists.

How to Operate

This lever chain hoist uses a three-position selector on the lever handle and a hand wheel on the opposite end.

  • To raise a load: Set the selector to UP and pump the lever. Each stroke winds a chain through the load sprocket.
  • To lower a load: Set the selector to DOWN and pump the lever. The dual pawl brake controls the descent one notch at a time.
  • To adjust chain length: Set the selector to NEUTRAL and turn the hand wheel. Clockwise shortens the chain; counterclockwise lengthens it. You can also pull the free end of the chain directly in Neutral mode.

If the brake locks after unloading by means other than the lever, move the selector to DOWN and pull sharply on the lever to release. Do not allow a load to drop even a short distance while connected to the hoist. Shock loads can damage the brake at any capacity.

Applications

The JET VLP lever chain puller handles lifting, pulling, and tensioning across maintenance, construction, and field work:

  • Lifting HVAC equipment, ductwork, and condensers into position in ceiling cavities and mechanical rooms
  • Pulling and tensioning fence wire, guy lines, and cable runs on agricultural and commercial sites
  • Positioning beams, pipes, and steel during construction framing and fit-up
  • Lifting motors, pumps, and valves during maintenance shutdowns in plants and facilities
  • Securing and adjusting loads on flatbed trailers and in shipping containers
  • Emergency vehicle and equipment extraction in remote or off-road situations
  • General rigging alongside chain hoists and pullers on industrial and construction sites

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a lever chain puller used for?

A lever chain puller lifts, lowers, pulls, and tensions loads using a ratcheting handle and a steel chain. It works in any orientation, including horizontal pulling, and needs no power source. The JET VLP lever chain puller covers 3/4 to 3 ton capacity with 5 ft or 10 ft lift.

JET VLP vs KLP lever hoist: what is the difference?

The VLP uses Grade 80 chain, stamped steel housing, and galvanized internals. The KLP upgrades to Grade 100 chain, high-impact gear case, ball bearings on the sprocket, and a Weston-style brake. Choose VLP for general maintenance and construction. Choose KLP for heavy industrial rigging.

What does ASME B30.21 mean on a lever hoist?

ASME B30.21 is the safety standard for manually operated lever hoists. It covers design, inspection, testing, and safe operating procedures. The JET VLP Series meets this standard and is load tested to 150% of rated capacity in an ISO 9001-2000 certified factory before shipping.

What chain grade does the VLP use and when should I replace it?

The VLP uses Grade 80 alloy steel chain. Inspect monthly for nicks, gouges, corrosion, or distorted links. Replace if the chain does not feed smoothly or if a 5-link gauge measurement exceeds the maximum in the operator manual. Use only genuine JET Grade 80 replacement chain.
