Description

Frozen Water Line Thawer for Plastic, Copper, and Iron Service Lines

Overview

When a water service line freezes, the crew needs a pipe thawing machine that reaches the blockage without fire risk or damage to plastic pipe. The Magikist PJDX-C pumps heated water through flexible tubing directly to the frozen section, then recirculates it back to the reservoir for reheating. Unlike electric thawers that only work on metal, this frozen water line thawer handles plastic (PE, PVC), copper, and iron from a standard 115V outlet with one operator.

Key Features

  • Hot water thawing works on plastic service lines where electric thawers cannot. The Magikist PJDX-C pushes heated water inside the pipe rather than passing current through the pipe wall, so it thaws any material without fire risk.
  • Flow/Pulse control lets the operator switch between high pulsing (to feed tubing down the line) and maximum flow (to thaw the ice once the probe tip reaches the blockage).
  • Water recirculation returns used water from the probe head back to the reservoir through a return hose, so the system runs without a continuous water supply.
  • One operator, one 115V outlet. Pneumatic wheels and a compact frame let one person move the unit up and down stairs and across uneven ground.
  • Reels swap in seconds. The standard 100 ft. reel unclips and can be replaced with a 200 ft. reel for longer service lines without tools.

Applications

  • Municipal water crews thawing frozen residential service connections between the water main and the curb stop.
  • Plumbing contractors responding to emergency frozen pipe calls at homes, restaurants, and commercial buildings.
  • Agricultural operations restoring water supply lines to livestock watering systems and barn facilities.
  • Construction and facility maintenance teams clearing frozen temporary water lines on job sites and in unheated buildings.

How the PJDX-C Thaws a Frozen Service Line

The Magikist pipe thawer follows a straightforward sequence from setup to restored flow.

  1. Position the PJDX-C near the curb stop and plug in the power cord. Fill the reservoir and turn on the immersion heater to pre-warm the water. The temperature indicator reads in both °F and °C.
  2. Attach the probe head to the curb stop fitting. The probe head includes a valve that controls the return hose back to the reservoir.
  3. Feed tubing with the self-centering probe tip through the probe head and into the service line. Set the pump to high pulsing mode to advance the tubing toward the frozen section.
  4. Once the probe tip reaches the ice, switch to maximum flow. Heated water exits the probe tip and melts the blockage. Water returns through the return hose for reheating.
  5. Continue until flow is restored. Retract the tubing, disconnect the probe head, and reel in the tubing for the next call.

What Ships with Each Configuration

Every Magikist PJDX-C ships as a complete kit: the pulse jet de-icer machine with reservoir, heater, pump, motor, probe head, return hose, one reel of tubing, and one probe tip. Cleanflow offers the machine in multiple tubing configurations using 1/4" black tubing (for narrow pipes) and 5/16" red tubing (standard size), in single-reel or dual-reel setups. Select your preferred configuration from the variant options above.

FAQs

How does the PJDX-C thaw frozen pipes?

The immersion heater warms water in the reservoir. A triplex ceramic plunger pump pushes that water through flexible tubing to the frozen section of the service line. The probe tip sprays heated water directly onto the ice. Water returns to the reservoir through a return hose, creating a continuous thawing loop.

Can you thaw plastic water lines with this machine?

Yes. The Magikist PJDX-C thaws plastic (PE, PVC), copper, and iron service lines. Electric thawers pass current through the pipe wall and only work on metal. The PJDX-C pushes hot water inside the pipe, so pipe material does not matter.

How does a pipe thawing machine compare to an electric thawer?

An electric thawer (Hot-Shot, RIDGID KT-190) clamps onto metal pipe and generates heat through electrical resistance. It weighs less and costs less but cannot thaw plastic. A pipe thawing machine vs electric thawer comes down to pipe material: if any line on your route could be plastic, the PJDX-C covers every scenario.

What comes with the Magikist PJDX-C?

The complete kit includes the machine, reservoir, heater, pump, motor, probe head, return hose, one reel of tubing, and one probe tip. Cleanflow offers multiple configurations with different tubing sizes and reel counts.

How much water does the PJDX-C hold?

The reservoir holds 6 U.S. gallons (23 L). The water recirculates during use, so the reservoir does not need refilling during a standard thawing operation.
