Description
15° External Chamfer Tool | PVC, CPVC, ABS, PP | Six Pipe Sizes in One Tool
The Reed DEB4 is a hand-operated deburring and chamfer tool that produces a 3/32" external chamfer at 15° on plastic pipe from 1-1/4" to 4" nominal diameter. A spring-loaded cutting head holds the blade against the pipe while you rotate the tool one full clockwise turn to deburr and chamfer in a single pass.
The DEB4 pipe deburring tool covers six pipe sizes in one tool: 1-1/4", 1-1/2", 2", 2-1/2", 3", and 4" nominal (42 to 114 mm O.D.). It works on PVC, CPVC, ABS, and PP. The aluminum die-cast body weighs 0.7 lbs, measures 5-1/4" x 3" x 1-1/2", and includes a 1/2" square drive on the back for use with a socket wrench.
Quick Specs
- Pipe Capacity: 1-1/4", 1-1/2", 2", 2-1/2", 3", 4" nom. (42-114 mm O.D.)
- Chamfer: 3/32" at 15°, external only
- Pipe Materials: PVC, CPVC, ABS, PP
- Body / Blade: Aluminum die-cast / Hardened steel
- Drive: Hand turn or 1/2" square drive (socket wrench)
- Weight: 0.7 lbs (0.32 kg)
Key Features
- Six pipe sizes, one tool. Each size has a dedicated radial groove in the body that guides the blade along the pipe O.D. for a consistent chamfer depth across all six diameters.
- Spring-loaded cutting head. The blade snaps tight against the pipe when seated in the groove. No manual adjustment or clamping needed between sizes.
- Deburr and chamfer in one clockwise rotation. A single full turn removes the cut burr and applies a 15° chamfer simultaneously, producing the angle pipe manufacturers specify for proper solvent cement joints.
- Reversible, replaceable blade. The hardened steel blade has two cutting edges, doubling the useful life before replacement. When both edges are spent, a DEB4B replacement blade keeps the tool working without replacing the whole unit.
- 1/2" square drive. The back of the tool accepts a ratchet or socket wrench for faster rotation on 3" and 4" pipe or repetitive work with many joints.

Applications
The Reed DEB4 is a plastic pipe deburring tool for trades that work with solvent-welded or gasketed pipe systems. Plumbers use it to prep PVC and CPVC joints on residential and commercial water lines. HVAC installers use it on condensate drains. Municipal crews use it on ABS and PVC sewer and water mains in the 2" to 4" range. It also applies to irrigation, pool and spa plumbing, and industrial process piping where a clean 15° chamfer is required before assembly.
How to Use the Reed DEB4
- Cut the pipe to the desired length.
- Seat the pipe O.D. into the proper radial groove on the DEB4 body.
- Snap the spring-loaded blade into position against the pipe. It locks tight.
- Rotate the pipe (or the tool) one complete revolution clockwise to complete the exterior chamfer.
- Remove the pipe. It is deburred, chamfered, and ready for fitting.
For larger diameters (3" and 4"), use a 1/2" ratchet on the square drive pocket to reduce hand effort.
DEB4 Blade Care
The blade is sharp. Handle with care when removing, sharpening, or replacing it. Each blade has two cutting edges. When one dulls, flip the blade and reinstall. Both edges can be resharpened with a fine file. When the blade is worn past sharpening, replace it with a Reed DEB4B.

Frequently Asked Questions
What pipe materials does the Reed DEB4 work on?
PVC, CPVC, ABS, and PP (polypropylene). It does not support PE (polyethylene). For PE pipe, use a Reed DEB1 series tool or the DEB2 cone deburring tool.
Does the DEB4 deburr the inside of the pipe?
No. It chamfers the external edge only, which is the surface that contacts the fitting socket during solvent welding. For internal deburring, use the Reed DEB1IPS-INT (deburrs both I.D. and O.D.) or the DEB2 cone tool.
Can I use a power drill with the DEB4?
The 1/2" square drive accepts a socket wrench or ratchet, not a drill. For drill-powered deburring, Reed makes the PDEB1 series and drill-powered chamfer tools (DPCCT2, DPCCT3, DPCCT4).
Does the DEB4 fit metric pipe sizes?
The DEB4 is sized by nominal IPS dimensions but fits the corresponding metric O.D. equivalents: 42, 50, 63, 75, 90, and 114 mm. Match your pipe's outside diameter to the correct radial groove.
Is the DEB4 safe for thin wall pipe?
Reed does not recommend the DEB4 for thin wall pipe. The blade pressure can deform thin wall material. A hand file or the DEB2 cone tool provides more control on thin wall applications.
