FAQs

1. How long can concrete stay in a cement mixer before it starts to set?

Concrete typically begins to set within 30 to 45 minutes of mixing, so it's best to pour it out of the cement mixer as soon as possible. Leaving it in the mixer longer increases the risk of partial setting, which can weaken the final product and damage your equipment if it hardens inside.

2. Can I mix mortar or plaster in a cement mixer, or is it only for concrete?

Yes, cement mixers can be used for mortar and plaster, too. Just make sure to thoroughly clean the drum between uses to prevent material contamination, and use the correct mixing ratios for each material, as mortar (cement and sand) and plaster (often cement, lime, and sand) have different consistencies than concrete.

3. Why is my cement mixer making loud grinding noises during operation?

Grinding noises can indicate worn bearings, loose drum components, or debris lodged in the gears. Stop the mixer immediately, check for obstructions, and inspect the moving parts. Ignoring such sounds can lead to costly damage or unsafe working conditions.

4. Can I leave my cement mixer outside in the rain?

It’s not recommended to leave a cement mixer exposed to the elements, as moisture can cause rust, damage electrical parts, and shorten the mixer’s lifespan. If outdoor storage is necessary, cover it with a waterproof tarp and store it on elevated ground to avoid pooling water.

5. Do I need to clean my cement mixer after every use?

Absolutely. Cleaning your cement mixer after every use prevents hardened residue from building up, which can shorten the mixer’s life and affect future mixes. Rinse the drum thoroughly with water and add a few shovel-loads of gravel with water for a scrubbing effect, then run the mixer briefly before dumping and rinsing again.
