Installation Method
Requires a PEX expansion tool and expansion collars. Not compatible with crimp tools, copper crimp rings, or stainless steel clamps. You must use Cold-X Tools and Heads for Cold Expansion PEX or equivalent expansion tools.
- Cut the PEX-A tubing squarely.
- Slide the cold expansion collar over the end of the PEX-A tubing.
- Expand the tubing and collar using the power or manual expansion tool.
- Insert the cold expansion PEX fitting.
- Hold the fitting in position until the tubing shrinks back to create a positive seal.
Applications & System Integration
- Residential potable water distribution
- Commercial plumbing systems
- Hydronic heating installations
- High-acidity water environments
- Corrosive water conditions
- ASTM F1960 PEX-A piping networks
Compliance & Certification
These fittings meet ASTM F1960 and CSA B137.5 standards. They hold cUPC certification and comply with NSF/ANSI 61 and NSF/ANSI 372 requirements for lead-free potable water systems.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is PEX-A tubing compatible with stainless steel expansion couplings?
Yes. PEX-A tubing is fully compatible with ASTM F1960 cold expansion fittings. The tubing expands with a reinforcing ring and then shrinks back due to its thermal memory, creating a secure, leak-free mechanical seal.
What is the difference between stainless steel cold expansion couplings and other PEX couplings?
Cold expansion couplings require an ASTM F1960 expansion tool and are designed specifically for PEX-A tubing. Other PEX fittings use crimp or clamp methods with metal rings and are compatible with PEX-A, PEX-B, and PEX-C tubing.
What tools are required for cold expansion PEX installation?
An ASTM F1960-compatible PEX expansion tool and properly sized expansion collars are required. Crimp tools, copper crimp rings, and clamp tools are not compatible with cold expansion fittings.
Can I use these couplings with PEX-B tubing?
No. These couplings are designed exclusively for ASTM F1960 cold expansion systems using PEX-A tubing. PEX-B does not have the required expansion memory to form a proper seal.
What temperature can these corrosion-resistant PEX fittings handle?
The system is rated for 100 PSI at 180°F (82°C), which aligns with typical domestic hot water and hydronic heating requirements. Always follow the pressure and temperature limits specified by the PEX tubing manufacturer.
Are these 304 stainless steel PEX fittings lead-free?
Yes. These fittings are manufactured from 304 stainless steel containing 0.00% lead and are certified to NSF/ANSI 372 for potable water safety.
Why choose stainless steel over brass for PEX fittings?
304 stainless steel provides superior corrosion resistance in aggressive or high-acidity water conditions and is immune to dezincification. This results in greater long-term durability compared to some brass fittings.
