Understanding UV Dosage and Flow Rates:
The intensity of UV light exposure, or UV dosage, varies with the flow rate through the system. The hydraulic performance of the disinfection chamber may limit the maximum flow rate. Flow restrictors can be used to ensure a minimum UV dosage by controlling the flow rate through the system.
- 16 mJ/cm²: Suitable for reducing non-pathogenic nuisance organisms, though many pathogens will also be eliminated at this dosage.
- 30 mJ/cm²: The standard dosage typically produced by systems designed using the 1966 US Department of Health Policy Statement. This is the dosage our systems are advertised with.
- 40 mJ/cm²: The dosage required by NSF/ANSI Standard 55 for more rigorous disinfection.
