Description

Melt Blown Polypropylene Sediment Filter for Standard 2.5" Housings

Overview

The Franklin FWPS Series is a melt blown polypropylene sediment filter cartridge built using micro-denier fibers fused through thermal bonding with no adhesives, binders, or chemical glues. The three-layer construction uses larger fibers on the outer surface to catch coarse particles first, and progressively finer fibers toward the center to retain smaller contaminants deeper in the cartridge. This gradient density increases dirt-holding capacity and extends service life compared to single-density filters.

Fits standard 10" x 2.5" OD filter housings. NSF 42 and FDA CFR Title 21 certified for potable water. Four micron ratings: 1, 5, 20, 50. Sold individually or in cases of 50.

Key Features of Spun Poly Sediment Filters

  • 100% polypropylene micro-denier fiber construction for chemical compatibility and bacterial resistance.
  • Three-layer gradient density: coarse outer layer, medium middle layer, fine inner layer for depth filtration.
  • Thermal-bonded without binders, adhesives, or chemical glues. Nothing leaches into the water.
  • NSF 42 and FDA CFR Title 21 certified for potable water and food contact applications.
  • Will not add taste, odor, or color to water.
  • Compatible with standard 2.5" OD housings including Pentek, Culligan, Aqua-Pure, GE, Whirlpool, and Ametek.

Compatible Housing Models

This 10" x 2.5" spun polypropylene sediment filter fits any standard housing that accepts the industry 10" x 2.5" OD cartridge format, including:

  • Pentek P5, 155014-43
  • Aqua-Pure AP110, AP101T
  • Culligan P5, P5A
  • GE FXUSC
  • Whirlpool WHKF-GD05
  • DuPont WFPFC5002

Frequently Asked Questions

What does this filter remove?

The FWPS cartridge reduces sediment, sand, rust, scale, and suspended particulates from water. It is a mechanical filter that captures particles based on micron rating. It does not remove dissolved chemicals, chlorine, or biological contaminants. For chlorine reduction, a carbon filter is needed downstream.

Does this filter contain glue or adhesives?

No. The cartridge is manufactured using thermal fusion technology. The polypropylene fibers are fused together by heat, not bonded with chemical glues, binders, or adhesives. Nothing leaches into the filtered water.

Is this filter suitable for drinking water?

Yes. The cartridge is NSF 42 certified and FDA CFR Title 21 compliant, both of which verify suitability for potable water contact. It will not add taste, odor, or color to the water.

What micron ratings are available?

1, 5, 20, and 50 micron. Use 5 micron for general residential sediment. Use 1 micron as a polishing filter before RO membranes. Use 20 or 50 micron as a first-stage pre-filter in heavy-sediment water to protect finer filters downstream.

Can this cartridge be used for reverse osmosis systems?

Yes. The FWPS is commonly used as a pre-filter to protect RO membranes from sediment that would otherwise clog or damage the membrane. A 5 micron cartridge upstream of the RO unit is the most common configuration.

What housing does a 10 x 2.5 spun poly filter fit?

Any standard housing that accepts a 10" x 2.5" OD cartridge. This includes housings from Pentek, Culligan, Aqua-Pure, GE, Whirlpool, DuPont, OmniFilter, and most whole-house and under-sink filter systems. Check your housing's cartridge size before ordering.

What is the difference between spun polypropylene and string wound filters?

Spun poly (melt blown) uses thermally fused fibers for uniform depth filtration and higher efficiency at fine micron ratings. String wound wraps cord around a core for higher dirt-holding capacity in heavy-sediment water. Choose spun poly for cleaner water needing fine filtration. Choose string wound for heavy sediment loads where capacity matters more than precision.
