Description
Product Overview
The Franklin FWGC Series Granular Activated Carbon (GAC) Filter Cartridges are designed to improve water quality by reducing chlorine, unpleasant tastes and odors, organics, tannins, turbidity, and volatile organic compounds (VOCs). Available in both 10" and 20" standard slimline sizes, these cartridges are compatible with most standard 2.5" OD filter housings and can be used as replacement cartridges in existing water filtration systems.
FWGC cartridges utilize a high-quality granular activated carbon bed that forces water to travel through the full length of the cartridge for maximum contact time and improved contaminant reduction. An internal expansion pad minimizes channeling and bypass, helping maintain consistent filtration performance throughout the cartridge’s service life.
These versatile carbon filters are ideal for residential and commercial drinking water systems, reverse osmosis pre- and post-filtration, and point-of-use water treatment applications requiring cleaner, fresher tasting water.

Frequently Asked Questions
What does a granular activated carbon filter remove?
FWGC Series cartridges help reduce chlorine, unpleasant tastes and odors, VOCs, THMs, turbidity, herbicides, pesticides, and organic contaminants from water.
What is the difference between the 10" and 20" cartridges?
The 20" cartridge provides higher flow capacity and approximately double the chlorine reduction capacity compared to the 10" version, making it better suited for higher-demand applications.
Can these filters be used with reverse osmosis systems?
Yes. FWGC cartridges are commonly used as both pre-filtration and post-filtration stages in residential and commercial RO systems.
Will this filter improve the taste of drinking water?
Yes. Granular activated carbon is highly effective at reducing chlorine and other contaminants responsible for bad tastes and odors.
Are these cartridges compatible with standard filter housings?
Yes. The FWGC Series is designed to fit most standard 2.5" OD slimline filter housings.
Why should the cartridge be flushed after installation?
Carbon cartridges may contain small carbon fines from manufacturing. Flushing the filter after installation helps remove these harmless particles before drinking or cooking with the water.
Does this filter remove bacteria or viruses?
No. Granular activated carbon filters are designed primarily for chemical and taste/odor reduction, not microbiological disinfection. Additional treatment methods may be required if biological contamination is present.
