Large amounts of iron in drinking water can give it an unpleasant metallic taste, as well as causing red, yellow or brown stains in sinks, tubs and toilets. Foods cooked in water with high iron turns dark and absorbs the taste of the water. Acceptable drinking water should contain less than 0.3 mg/l iron.
