Description

PEX Bend Support That Turns Tubing 90 Degrees Without an Elbow Fitting

A 1/2 in. PEX line has to turn up the stud bay to a shower valve. Bent by hand, it kinks. A crimp elbow means two rings, two crimps, and a restriction in the line. The Fairview PEX bend support snaps over the tube, holds the curve at 90 degrees, and screws to the stud with no joint in the water path. Ten per pack.

What's in the Pack

Each Fairview PEX bend support pack holds 10 supports of one size. Order the 1/2 in. PEX bend support for branch lines and fixture stub-outs, and the 3/4 in. PEX bend support for mains and appliance feeds.

Key Features and Benefits

A PEX bend support does one job: it stops the tube from folding at a corner.

  • A PEX 90-degree bend support fixes the turn radius, so every corner in a run comes out the same, and stub-outs line up across a wall.
  • The drop-ear flange turns the PEX bend support bracket into an anchor. One or two screws through the slots hold the tube steady at a stub-out or against a stud.
  • The tube snaps into the open channel by hand. No tools, no heat, and no waiting for the tube to set.
  • Molded black polyethylene does not corrode, so a damp basement or crawlspace does not shorten its life.
  • Fairview has made hose and fittings in Ontario since 1969 and is based in Oakville. The PEX-BS series is a catalogue part number, so the same support is there for the next job.

Installing a Bend Support

These steps are standard practice for snap-on plastic bend supports. Keep every free bend elsewhere in the run at or above the tube maker's minimum PEX bend radius.

  1. Mark where the tube must turn and hold the support against the framing with its ear flat on the wood.
  2. Drive a screw through each slot. The flange only needs to sit flat, so do not overtighten.
  3. Push the tube into the channel at the start of the curve until it seats.
  4. Sweep the tube around the curve and press it into the channel at the far end.
  5. Check that the tube sits fully in the channel with no flat spot at the bend.

PEX Bend Support vs Elbow Fitting vs Steel Bend Support

Fairview Plastic Bend Support Crimp Elbow Fitting Galvanized Steel Bend Support
Joints in the line None Two crimp connections None
Tool needed None Crimp tool and go/no-go gauge None
Flow through the turn Full bore Insert fitting sits inside the tube Full bore
Mounting Screws through the drop ear Drop-ear elbows screw to framing; plain elbows float Set in the slab
Where it belongs Stud bays, joist cavities, stub-outs Corners too tight for any curve Concrete pours

In a PEX bend support vs elbow decision, room decides. Where the curve fits, the PEX elbow support wins on parts, labour, and flow, because nothing enters the tube. When the corner is too tight for any curve, a stainless drop-ear 90 PEX elbow is the right part.

Applications

A bend support earns its place anywhere PEX changes direction inside framing:

  • Fixture stub-outs, where a 1/2 in. PEX bend support brings the line out through the drywall square to the wall and holds it steady for the stop valve.
  • Branch lines turning inside stud bays and joist cavities. A free bend there would flatten the tube.
  • Water heater, softener, and manifold connections, where a 3/4 in. PEX bend support turns the main up to the appliance without an elbow at the turn.
  • Radiant loops rising out of a slab to a manifold. A PEX 90-degree bend support protects the tube at the transition.

Between bends, the Fairview PEX J-Clip with Nail holds the straight runs at code spacing.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a PEX bend support?

A PEX bend support is a rigid plastic or metal form that holds PEX tubing in a 90-degree curve so it cannot kink. The tube snaps into the channel, and the support screws to framing. It replaces an elbow fitting when there's room for the curve and anchors stub-outs at fixtures.

When is a bend support better than an elbow?

Use the bend support whenever the turn has room for the curve. It saves the elbow and two crimp rings, needs no crimp tool, and leaves the bore open. Use an elbow only where the corner is too tight. Some installers call it a PEX elbow support.

Metal vs plastic PEX bend support: which do I need?

Plastic for framing, metal for concrete. The Fairview PEX bend support is molded polyethylene and screws to studs, joists, and plates. Galvanized steel supports are the usual choice inside a slab pour, where corrosion resistance matters more than weight and there is no wood to screw into.

Can PEX bend 90 degrees without a support?

Only with a wide sweep. Model plumbing codes set the minimum PEX bend radius at six times the outside diameter, about 3-3/4 in. for 1/2 in. tube and 5-1/4 in. for 3/4 in. A PEX 90-degree bend support holds a tighter curve the tube cannot make on its own.

Do I need a special bracket or screws to mount it?

No special bracket. The drop ear on the PEX bend support bracket takes ordinary wood screws through its slots: one on the 1/2 in. size and two on the 3/4 in. Screws are not in the pack. Screw the ear flat to the framing before snapping the tube in.
