Description
PE Squeeze-Off Tool for 1/2" to 2" CTS and IPS Polyethylene Pipe, Heavy Duty, Precise Pipe Control with Rotating Stops and Fine Thread Mechanism
A PE squeeze-off tool temporarily stops flow in a polyethylene pipe by compressing it flat between two parallel squeeze bars. This manual squeeze-off tool handles 1/2" to 2" CTS and IPS PE pipe, covering residential water service through mid-range gas distribution mains. A fine-thread feed screw controls compression while rotating safety stops prevent over-squeezing, protecting pipe integrity during maintenance, tie-ins, and planned shutdowns.

Key Features
- Fine-thread feed screw compresses PE pipe at a controlled rate of up to 2 inches per minute
- Rotating pipe/SDR stops prevent over-squeezing and match to the pipe diameter for CTS and IPS PE pipe
- Double bar design applies two squeeze points for even compression and improved quality of flow control
- Swing-out bottom bar mounts onto live pipe without lifting or disconnecting the line
- Two-position assist handle adapts to tight work locations and awkward dig angles
- Aluminum construction at 11.2 lbs keeps the tool portable for field crews
- Two grease fittings at the nut and bearing cavity reduce wear between jobs
- Threaded connection on the head accepts a static grounding device for PE gas pipe work

Applications
- Gas utility crews use this PE pipe squeeze-off tool during planned maintenance and tie-in work on distribution lines
- Water utility operators perform controlled shutoffs on 1/2" to 2" polyethylene service lines without a valve
- Pipeline contractors rely on a manual squeeze-off tool for PE pipe replacement and new service connections
- Municipal public works departments carry this squeeze-off tool for gas pipe during emergency and scheduled repairs
- Utility inspectors use the PE squeeze-off tool to isolate pipe sections for pressure testing and leak surveys

How to Use a PE Squeeze Off Tool
A polyethylene squeeze-off tool works by compressing PE pipe flat between two parallel bars to stop flow temporarily. The following steps are based on ASTM F1041 and the manufacturer's operating instructions.
- Raise the top bar using the feed screw and sliding handle. Attach the two-position helper handle.
- Follow static discharge procedures before contacting the pipe. A static grounding device (PEGR7, #04621) threads into the connection on the tool head.
- Swing out the bottom bar and mount the tool onto the pipe. Seat the rod nuts in the bottom bar pockets. Center the pipe along the full width of both bars and square it to the tie rods.
- Select both rotating stops for the pipe diameter and SDR. Position each stop with the flat side facing the bottom bar. Both stops must match.
- Turn the feed screw to compress the pipe. Pause momentarily between turns to let the pipe relax. Do not exceed 2 inches per minute. Squeeze until the stops contact the bottom bar or until flow control is satisfactory.
- To release, slowly unscrew the feed screw at no more than 1/2 inch per minute. When the bars no longer hold the pipe under pressure, remove the tool.
- Optionally, rotate the tool 45 to 90 degrees and apply light force to reround the pipe. Inspect the squeezed section for damage. Never squeeze the same location twice.
Cold Weather
Below 50°F (10°C), PE pipe becomes stiffer and more susceptible to damage. Reduce squeeze and release rates. Allow 5 to 15 minutes or more for the pipe to relax between pauses. In cold conditions, a double squeeze-off using two tools in series may be needed for complete flow control.
Double Squeeze-Off
If a single PE pipe squeeze-off tool doesn't provide satisfactory flow control, place a second tool on the same line. Maintain at least 12 inches or 3 pipe diameters of separation from the first tool, from any fitting, and from any previous squeeze point.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a PE squeeze off tool?
A PE squeeze-off tool temporarily stops flow in polyethylene pipe by compressing it flat between two parallel bars. Utility crews use it for planned maintenance, tie-ins, and service replacements on gas and water distribution lines. The pipe returns to its original shape after the tool is removed.
Does a squeeze-off tool completely stop flow in PE pipe?
Complete flow stoppage is not always achieved, especially at higher pressures. Some seepage past the squeeze point is normal per PPI Technical Note TN-54. A double squeeze-off using two tools in series reduces residual flow. Never rely on a single squeeze point for gas-free work without verifying flow has stopped.
PE squeeze-off tool vs. shut-off tool: what is the difference?
A squeeze-off tool uses a feed screw to gradually compress PE pipe flat for controlled maintenance. A shut-off tool is a quick-action clamp for emergency water shutoffs. ASTM F1563 covers squeeze-off tools for PE gas pipe. Shut-off tools are lighter and simpler, covering water service only.
What size squeeze-off tool do I need?
Match the tool to the pipe's nominal diameter. The PES1 covers 1/2" to 1" PE pipe. The PES2 covers 1/2" to 2". The PES4 covers 2" to 4". Select the tool that fits the pipe range without overlap, and confirm whether the pipe is CTS or IPS before ordering stops.
CTS vs IPS PE pipe squeeze-off: what is the difference?
CTS (copper tube size) and IPS (iron pipe size) are two standards for PE pipe outside diameter. The same nominal pipe size has a different actual O.D. depending on the standard. Each requires a different set of safety stops. Using the wrong stops risks pipe damage or incomplete flow control.
