The Reed PPRK4 is a 4-piece plastic pipe fitting reamer kit that includes the four most commonly used Clean Ream Extreme sizes: 1-1/2", 2", 3", and 4". Each reamer removes old pipe and solvent cement residue from inside Schedule 40 fittings so the fitting can be reused instead of replaced. The kit ships in a hard plastic carrying case that keeps all four reamers organized and protected on the jobsite.

This socket saver kit covers the fitting sizes most frequently encountered in residential and commercial drain, waste, and vent (DWV) work. Each reamer has a carbide cutting insert with four usable edges and a pilot diameter for centering and depth control. All four sizes use a 3/8" hex shaft that fits any standard 1/2" drill.

For sizes not in this kit (3/4", 1", 1-1/4", and 2-1/2"), individual Clean Ream Extreme reamers are available separately.

Key Features

• Four commonly used sizes in one kit. The PPRK4 covers 1-1/2", 2", 3", and 4" Schedule 40 fittings, which account for the majority of residential and commercial DWV piping. Having all four on hand eliminates return trips for the right size.
• Hard plastic carrying case. The included case holds all four reamers in a single, organized package. It protects the carbide inserts during transport and keeps the tools together in a service van or on a job trailer.
• Carbide cutting inserts with four edges each. Every reamer in the kit uses a carbide insert that can be rotated to expose fresh cutting edges. Each insert provides four usable edges before it needs replacing. See Carbide Insert Care below for the rotation procedure.
• Pilot diameter for centering and depth control. The pilot nose on each reamer enters the fitting socket first, keeping the tool on center and preventing it from reaming past the socket into the fitting seat.
• 3/8" hex shaft on all four sizes. Every reamer in the PPRK4 uses a 3/8" hex shaft that chucks into any standard or cordless 1/2" drill. No adapters or special tools needed.

How to Use the Reed PPRK4 Clean Ream Extreme Kit

1. Cut the damaged or old pipe as close to the fitting as possible using a plastic pipe saw or ratchet shears.
2. Select the correct reamer from the kit for the fitting size. If assembling a reamer for the first time, insert the shaft into the reamer body until flush with the bottom, then tighten the set screw with a 1/8" Allen wrench. Insert the hex shaft into the drill chuck and tighten.
3. Insert the reamer into the fitting. Keep the tool on center to prevent binding. If no chips are being produced, remove and check alignment.
4. Ream until all old pipe has been removed from the fitting socket. Do not ream beyond the pipe socket or into the seat of the fitting. Stop several times near the end and visually check depth.
5. Remove the reamer and clean all chips from the fitting. The fitting is now ready for a new pipe joint. Deburr and chamfer the replacement pipe end with a Reed DEB4 deburring tool before applying solvent cement.

Drill settings: Use low to medium RPM with high torque. Do not use impact drills. For the 3" and 4" reamers (PPR300 and PPR400), a 1/2" right angle drill is recommended due to the high reaction torque these sizes produce. Lower RPM on 3" and 4" reduces heat and prevents distortion of the fitting.

Carbide Insert Care

Each reamer in the PPRK4 kit has a carbide cutting insert with four cutting edges. When the current edge dulls, remove the cap screw, rotate the insert 180°, and reinstall. This exposes two fresh edges. Repeat once more for the remaining two edges. When all four edges are spent, replace the insert.

After each use, clean the edge of each reamer with solvent to remove the thin film left by solvent cement.

Applications

The Reed PPRK4 is a PVC, CPVC, and ABS fitting reamer kit for plumbers, maintenance crews, and contractors who regularly work with Schedule 40 fittings in the 1-1/2" to 4" range. As a pipe reamer kit for drill use, it handles the fitting sizes most common in drain lines, vent lines, waste stacks, PVC unions, and water lines where a section of pipe has failed, frozen, or needs rerouting. It is also used in renovation and retrofit work where cutting out a fitting would mean opening a wall, ceiling, or slab.

Not recommended for: high-pressure supply systems or the vent side of gas-burning appliance piping systems.
