Description

Robar tapped service saddles create a pre-threaded outlet on a water main, so you can run a service line off a transmission or distribution pipe without field-tapping the saddle itself. Cleanflow stocks the stainless steel 2616 and 2626 series for plastic and metal pipes in corrosive soil, plus the bronze-bodied 2706 series for “hot” soil environments where galvanic protection matters. Every model below is NSF-61 certified and built to AWWA C230.

Robar Tapped Service Saddles We Carry

Six models cover every combination of single/double section, stainless/bronze body, and CC/IP thread. Here’s what each one is for.

Robar 2616 Tapped Service Saddle — CC Tap

Single-section saddle, CC thread outlet.

The Robar 2616 Stainless Single Section Tapped Service Saddle — CC Tap is the workhorse of the lineup. Single-section design with a 304 stainless body, nitrile rubber gasket, and 5/8" NC passivated stainless fasteners. Rated to 250 PSI and fits ductile iron, cast iron, steel, PVC C900+, HDPE, and AC pipe. Use this when you’re taking a standard AWWA corp stop up to 2" off a distribution main. The default choice for most municipal and contractor service taps.

Robar 2616 Tapped Service Saddle — IP Thread

Single-section saddle, IP (iron pipe) thread outlet.

The Robar 2616 Stainless Single Section Tapped Service Saddle — IP Thread has the same 2616 body, same 304 stainless construction, and the same 250 PSI rating as the CC version, but with an iron pipe thread outlet instead of CC. Order this version when your utility spec or corp stops calls for an IP thread. If your corp stop has parallel threads and a square shoulder, you want IP, not CC.

Robar 2626 Tapped Service Saddle — CC Tap

Double-section saddle for larger mains, CC thread outlet.

The Robar 2626 Stainless Double Section Tapped Service Saddle — CC Tap uses a two-piece design that wraps fully around the pipe with gasketed halves. Fits 6" to 11.5" OD mains and holds a better seal on larger pipe and on older ductile iron where roundness has drifted. 250 PSI rated, NSF-61 and AWWA C230 certified. Specify this on bigger transmission mains or anywhere you’ve had 2616 single-sections fail to seat clean.

Robar 2626 Tapped Service Saddle — IP Tap

Double-section saddle for larger mains, IP thread outlet.

The Robar 2626 Stainless Double Section Tapped Service Saddle — IP Tap is the IP-threaded version of the 2626. Same double-section stainless body, same 6–10" OD fit range, same 250 PSI pressure rating. Order this when you’re working on a larger main and your corp stop is IP-threaded. Common in older utility systems and certain municipal standards.

Robar 2706 Bronze — Double Strap, CC Thread

Bronze body, double stainless straps, 4–12" pipe.

The Robar 2706 Cast Bronze Service Saddle uses the same 2706 bronze body with two stainless straps instead of one, extending the pipe fit range up to 12" OD. Same 300 PSI rating, same corrosion-resistant materials. Choose this over the single-strap version when you’re on a larger-diameter pipe or in hot soil where load distribution matters. The upgrade pick for aggressive underground environments.

How to Choose the Right Robar Service Saddle

Four questions. Answer them in order, and you’ll land on the right part.

1. What’s your pipe OD?

Measure the actual outside diameter, not the nominal size. PVC C900 and ductile iron share nominal sizes, but can run a 10th of an inch apart on OD, and that’s enough to change which saddle fits. Under 6" OD, you’re in single-section territory. Over 6", move to double-section.

2. Single section or double section?

Single section for routine service taps up to 2" on mains under 6" OD, faster to install, fewer parts to handle. Go to the Robar 2616 Stainless — CC Tap or the 2616 IP Thread version. Double section for larger-OD mains (6–11.5") or older ductile iron, where roundness has drifted. The 2626 CC and IP models give you a tighter wrap and better seal.

3. Stainless or bronze body?

Default to stainless (2616 or 2626). It handles most modern water and wastewater systems. Switch to bronze (2706) when your soil is “hot”, low-resistivity ground with aggressive chlorides where you need a noble-metal pairing to avoid galvanic loss, or when your municipal spec calls for bronze on the tap.

4. CC tap or IP thread?

Match the corporation stop to your existing system before installing. The CC (AWWA/Mueller) thread is the North American waterworks standard and is the correct choice for most municipal and contractor work. IP (iron pipe) thread is specified on certain utility systems and some older municipal inventories. Don’t assume, look at the corp stop.

Installation Torque & Pressure Ratings at a Glance

Over-torquing is the most common installation mistake. The gasket deforms, the saddle body distorts, and you end up with a slow weep nobody catches until the service is pressurized. Use a calibrated torque wrench and follow these numbers:

  • Torque spec — all models: 45 ft-lbs on the fasteners. Do not exceed.
  • Fastener size — 2616 and 2626: 5/8" NC passivated T304 stainless.
  • Fastener size — 2706: 1/2" NC passivated T304 stainless, anti-galling compound on the nuts.
  • Working pressure — stainless (2616, 2626): 250 PSI.
  • Working pressure — bronze (2706): 300 PSI.
  • Gasket material — all models: nitrile (NBR) rubber.

Frequently Asked Questions

What’s the difference between a tapped service saddle and a tapping sleeve?

A tapped service saddle has the outlet already threaded. You thread in a corporation stop and tap the pipe through the stop. A tapping sleeve is larger, fully encloses the pipe, and accepts a tapping valve for larger outlets (usually 3" and above). Per AWWA M23, the maximum outlet for a service clamp or saddle is 2". For anything larger, specify a tapping sleeve and valve.

Can I install a Robar service saddle on a pressurized main?

Yes, that’s the standard use case. The saddle seats and seals against the pipe with the main still under pressure. Then the corp stop is installed, and the pipe is wet-tapped through the stop. Dry tapping (main shut down) is faster, but wet tapping is why these saddles exist.

Are Robar tapped service saddles NSF-61 certified?

Yes. The 2616, 2626, and 2706 series are all NSF-61 certified for potable water contact, UL listed, and built to AWWA C230. The certifications are printed on the body and listed on each product page.

What thread should I order — CC or IP?

CC (AWWA) is the default for most municipal and contractor work in Canada. The IP thread is specified on certain utility systems. If you’re ordering a standard drawing, the thread is in the spec.

Do these saddles work on HDPE pipe?

Yes, across all three series, within the OD range listed on each product page. For HDPE with an SDR above 17 (thinner wall), take extra care not to over-torque the pipe will flex under clamping pressure.
