Robar Repair Clamps and Saddles: Ensuring Connections
Cleanflow stocks the full Robar Industries lineup: repair clamps, couplings, service saddles, tapping sleeves, and back-up rings for water and wastewater systems. Robar is Canada's largest waterworks fittings manufacturer, headquartered in Surrey, BC, since 1958. The company invented the all-stainless-steel pipe repair clamp in 1965, and that design is still the industry standard.

Application Guide: Choosing the Right Robar Product for Water and Sewer Infrastructure
Use this quick reference to match the job to the right Robar product family:
Repairing a leaking water main (hole, crack, or pinhole)
Choose a 5600 Series repair clamp. Single-section 5616 for smaller breaks on 3"–12" mains; double-section 5626 for larger diameters or fragile pipe materials; full-wrap 5606 when the damage spans more than half the circumference. The 5696SC snap clamp covers small-pipe emergency repairs.
Adding a service connection to an existing main
Choose a Robar tapped service saddle. 2616 for single-section, 2626 for double-section, both up to 250 PSI. For higher-pressure transmission lines, the 2706 cast bronze saddle is rated to 300 PSI. Match the CC or IP thread to the corporation stop or fitting downstream.
Joining two pipes (same or dissimilar OD)
Choose a Robar pipe joining coupling. The Vantage Series multi-fit (4"–12") accommodates similar or dissimilar ODs in the same nominal size group with up to 7° angular deflection — useful when alignment isn't perfect. NSF/ANSI 61 certified for potable water systems.
Reinforcing thin-wall PVC or HDPE before using a coupling or clamp
Add a Robar stainless steel adjustable pipe insert inside the pipe. Available in 6", 8", and 12" lengths. Required by Robar for HDPE installations using restraining couplings — confirm the insert length is within the restraint length.
Connecting polyethylene pipe to a flanged component
Use a Robar 9500 flange back-up ring to support the gasketed joint and prevent gasket extrusion under bolt load. Conforms to ASA B16.5 (150-pound bolt pattern), epoxy-coated per AWWA C-213, rated to 150 PSI.

What pipe materials are compatible with repair clamps and saddles?
Repair clamps and saddles are compatible with a wide range of pipe materials, including ductile iron, cast iron, steel, PVC, HDPE, and asbestos cement. The key is selecting the right clamp or saddle with gasket types and band widths designed for the specific pipe material and diameter.
How do tapped service saddles improve efficiency in municipal water systems?
Tapped service saddles enable utility workers to quickly and safely add service lines to mains without needing to cut or weld the pipe. This speeds up installations, reduces downtime, and allows for consistent water service during upgrades or new connections.
What pressure ratings should I consider when selecting a clamp or saddle?
Always check the working pressure rating of the clamp or saddle, which can range from 100 to 300 PSI or more. The selected product should match or exceed the maximum operating pressure of the water system to ensure safety and performance over time.
Are double-section saddles more secure than single-section ones?
Double-section saddles provide a more balanced and secure grip around the pipe, making them ideal for larger diameters or when working on fragile materials like AC or PVC. They distribute pressure more evenly, reducing the risk of cracking or leaks at the connection point.
What features should I look for in repair clamps to handle corrosive environments?
Look for clamps with full stainless steel construction, EPDM or nitrile rubber gaskets, and fusion-bonded epoxy coatings for added protection. These features enhance resistance to corrosion, chemicals, and UV exposure—ideal for coastal, industrial, or chemically treated water environments.
What's the difference between a Robar coupling and a Robar repair clamp?
Couplings join two separate pipe sections together, typically during new installations or planned tie-ins, and create a continuous flow path. Repair clamps wrap around an existing damaged pipe to seal a leak, hole, or crack without cutting the line. If you're connecting two pipe ends, use a coupling. If you're stopping a leak on a pipe that's already in service, use a repair clamp.
Are Robar fittings made in Canada?
