Description
20 Inch Melt Blown Sediment Filter for Commercial and High-Demand Systems
Overview
The Franklin 20" x 2.5" OD FWPS Series Spun Poly Filter Cartridge provides high-capacity sediment filtration for commercial, industrial, and high-demand residential water treatment systems. The extended 20" length holds more sediment than the standard 10" version, which means longer intervals between replacements and fewer cartridge changes per year.
Built from 100% melt blown micro-denier polypropylene using thermal bonding with no adhesives or binders. Three-layer gradient density: larger fibers on the outer surface catch coarse particles first, finer fibers toward the center retain smaller contaminants. NSF 42 and FDA CFR Title 21 certified for potable water. Four micron ratings: 1, 5, 20, 50. Sold individually or in cases of 25.
Key Features
- 20" extended length for higher sediment capacity and longer service life than 10" cartridges in the same housing diameter.
- 100% polypropylene micro-denier fiber, thermally bonded without binders, adhesives, or chemical glues.
- Three-layer gradient density: coarse outer layer, medium middle layer, fine inner layer for depth filtration.
- Chemically resistant polypropylene resists bacterial attack and does not add taste, odor, or color to water.
- NSF 42 and FDA CFR Title 21 certified for potable water and food contact applications.
Compatible Housing Models
Fits any standard housing that accepts a 20" x 2.5" OD cartridge. Common compatible housings include:
- Pentek 20" slim-line housings (150071, 150233)
- Culligan, Aqua-Pure, GE, and Whirlpool 20" standard housings
- Most commercial and industrial 20" cartridge filter systems
- Whole-house and point-of-entry 20" filter installations
Confirm your housing accepts a 20" x 2.5" OD cartridge before ordering. If your system uses 10" cartridges, see the Franklin FWPS 10" version.
Applications
- Commercial water filtration systems requiring extended service intervals
- Industrial process water and cooling water
- Reverse osmosis pre-filtration
- Food and beverage processing
- Chemical processing and electroplating
- Water purification systems
- High-demand residential wells with heavy sediment

Frequently Asked Questions
Why choose a 20" filter cartridge over a 10"?
The 20" cartridge holds roughly twice the sediment of a 10" before the pressure drop reaches the replacement threshold. This means longer service intervals and fewer cartridge changes per year. Choose 20" for commercial systems, high-sediment wells, or any application where reducing maintenance frequency matters.
What are the part numbers for each micron rating?
FWPS2001 (1 micron), FWPS2005 (5 micron), FWPS2020 (20 micron), FWPS2050 (50 micron). All are 20" x 2.5" OD spun polypropylene sediment filter cartridges. Confirm the part number matches your micron requirement when ordering.
Is polypropylene chemically resistant?
Yes. Polypropylene is compatible with a wide range of process fluids, acids, and alkalis. It is also resistant to bacterial attack, which makes it suitable for water treatment systems where biological growth is a concern.
Will the filter affect water taste or smell?
No. The polypropylene media contains no binders, adhesives, or chemical additives. It will not add taste, odor, or color to filtered water. NSF 42 certification confirms this.
How often should I replace this water filter cartridge?
Replace when the pressure drop across the cartridge reaches 1.5 Bar (22 psi), which the system's pressure gauge will show. In typical use, this is every 3 to 6 months depending on sediment load and flow rate. Heavy-sediment water or high-volume commercial systems may need more frequent polypropylene water filter replacement.
What housing does a 20 x 2.5 spun poly filter fit?
Any standard housing designed for a 20" x 2.5" OD cartridge. This includes 20" housings from Pentek, Culligan, Aqua-Pure, GE, and most commercial filter system manufacturers. A 20" cartridge will NOT fit a 10" housing. Confirm your housing length before ordering.
What is the difference between spun polypropylene and string wound filters?
Spun poly (melt blown) uses thermally fused micro-denier fibers for uniform depth filtration and higher efficiency at fine micron ratings. String wound wraps cord around a core for higher dirt-holding capacity in heavy-sediment water at a lower cost per unit. Choose spun poly for cleaner water needing fine filtration. Choose string wound for heavy sediment loads.
