Overview
The Franklin FWIC is an inline granular activated carbon filter that connects directly to any 1/4 inch water line. No separate housing needed. Coconut shell carbon reduces chlorine, taste, and odor. Available with 1/4" quick-connect fittings (FWIC10Q) or 1/4" female NPT threaded ends (FWIC10N). As a post-RO polishing filter, service life is approximately 12 months. As a standalone inline filter on potable water, capacity is 1,800 to 2,000 gallons or roughly 6 months. Flush at least 5 gallons through the filter before putting it into service to clear carbon fines.

Quick-Connect vs FNPT: Which Connection Type
FWIC10Q (Quick Connect) has 1/4" male push-fit fittings on both ends. Push the tubing in, and the fitting grips. No tools, no thread tape. This is the standard connection for most RO systems, refrigerator water lines, and ice maker lines that use 1/4" flexible tubing.
FWIC10N (FNPT Threaded) has 1/4" female NPT threads on both ends. Requires male NPT fittings or adapters. Use this when your system has threaded connections or when you need a more permanent, wrench-tightened installation.
If your water line is 1/4" flexible tubing (the most common setup for RO and refrigerator installations), choose quick-connect. The quick-connect version is a disposable inline filter — when capacity is reached, replace the entire unit.

What does this inline carbon filter remove?
It reduces chlorine, taste and odor compounds, and organic contaminants that are adsorbable by GAC. It does not remove dissolved solids, fluoride, or minerals. For TDS reduction, use a reverse osmosis membrane.
How long does the filter last?
As a post-RO polishing filter (low contaminant load after the membrane), approximately 12 months. As a standalone inline filter on municipal or well water, 1,800 to 2,000 gallons or roughly 6 months. Replace sooner if taste or odor returns.
Do I need to flush the filter before use?
Yes. Run at least 5 gallons of water through the filter to drain before putting it into service. This clears loose carbon fines from the media.
Can this filter improve the taste of RO water?
Yes. RO membranes can leave a flat or slightly off taste. The FWIC installs after the membrane as a polishing stage to remove any residual taste and odor compounds. This is its most common application.
Is this the same filter included in the Vectapure NX kits?
Yes. The FWIC10Q (quick connect) is included in both the Vectapure NX filter kit and the kit with 400 GPD membrane. Formerly sold as Waterite/Excelpure part number AIC10EZ.
Is this filter safe for drinking water?
Yes. The outer shell is 100% virgin polypropylene and the media is coconut shell activated carbon. The manufacturer lists potable water as a primary application. No NSF certification is listed on the spec sheet, but all materials are suitable for drinking water use.
Can this be used on hot water?
No. Cold water only. The maximum operating temperature is 40°C (105°F) per the manufacturer's spec sheet.
