Description

Internal Metguard Work Boots with Composite Toe, -45°C Rated

Product Overview

When the hazard assessment calls for metatarsal protection at -45°C, most 8" lace-up boots do not qualify. The STC Golden winter work boots are a 15" tall Wellington-style pull-on built from lightweight waterproof PU with a rigid internal METATECH System PLUS metguard, composite toe, and a -45°C/-50°F cold rating. The PU shell resists oil, acid, abrasion, and tearing. Among composite toe winter boots -45C rated in Canada, the Golden is the only PU Wellington with internal metguard. A breathable neoprene-insulated Neo Sox ships with every pair.

Key Features

  • METATECH System PLUS rigid internal metguard protects the metatarsal bones across the top and sides of the foot. This is CSA "M" rated protection required on mining, refinery, and heavy industrial sites where falling objects and rolling equipment threaten the upper foot.
  • -45°C / -50°F cold rating with a breathable neoprene-insulated Neo Sox included in the box. The sock slides into the PU shell and can be removed for drying between shifts. An inner eyelet inside the boot lets workers hang it upside down to dry faster.
  • Lightweight waterproof PU shell resists oil, acid, abrasion, and tearing. PU is lighter than rubber, so the 15" height does not weigh the foot down the way a tall rubber boot would.
  • Composite toe (125 joules) and composite puncture plate (1,200 N). No metal in the safety components, so the boot does not conduct cold through the toe.
  • 15" Wellington-style pull-on covers the shin well above the ankle. No laces to freeze, break, or catch on equipment. The 90° heel catches on ladder rungs.

Applications

  • Mining operations where CSA metatarsal protection and extreme cold ratings are both required.
  • Oil and gas field work in northern Canadian winter conditions at or below -45°C where PU safety boots Canada offer lighter weight than rubber alternatives.
  • Refinery and heavy industrial sites where the hazard assessment specifies metatarsal protection and cold-rated composite toe boots.
  • Agricultural and livestock operations where falling tools and heavy equipment threaten the top of the foot.
  • Any cold-weather job site requiring metguard winter work boots that pull on fast and dry between shifts.

What the METATECH System PLUS Protects

A safety toe protects the toes. It does not protect the top of the foot behind the toes. That area has five long bones (the metatarsals) with no padding above them. A dropped pipe, a rolling barrel, or a falling tool can fracture these bones through the top of a standard work boot.

The METATECH System PLUS is a rigid guard built inside the Golden that covers the top and sides of the foot in this unprotected zone. CSA certifies it as "M" rated metatarsal protection.

Unlike external metguards that bolt onto the outside and add bulk, the internal guard sits between the lining and the PU shell. The outside of the STC Golden safety boots stays smooth, so nothing catches on ladders, equipment, or confined-space entry points. Internal metguard work boots like the Golden are standard PPE on mining, refinery, and heavy industrial sites across Canada.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is METATECH System PLUS metguard?

A rigid internal guard that protects the metatarsal bones across the top and sides of the foot. It sits inside the boot between the shell and lining, unlike external metguards that bolt on outside. CSA "M" certified for metatarsal protection.

How do STC Golden vs Cobalt boots compare?

Both are tall boots with internal metguard and extreme cold ratings. The Golden is a PU Wellington-style pull-on rated to -45°C with composite toe. The Cobalt is a natural rubber boot rated to -60°C with steel toe and a removable triple-density liner. Choose the Golden for lighter weight and composite protection. Choose the Cobalt for the coldest conditions and a removable liner you can dry separately.

What should I know about STC Golden boot sizing?

The Golden comes in Medium (M) width only, unlike most STC boots, which are Wide. It runs tight at the arch. Consider sizing up by one full size, especially if wearing thick winter socks over the included Neo Sox. STC Golden boot sizing is narrower than the Keep, Shire, or Blacksmith.

How cold rated are STC Golden boots?

STC rates the Golden to -45°C / -50°F. The neoprene-insulated Neo Sox that ships with the boot provides the primary insulation layer. For conditions colder than -45°C, the STC Cobalt is rated to -60°C.

What are the best MetGuard winter work boots in Canada?

Boots with CSA "M" metatarsal certification, composite or steel toe, a published cold rating, and waterproof construction. The STC Golden winter work boots check all four: METATECH System PLUS internal metguard, composite toe, -45°C rating, and waterproof PU shell built for mining and heavy industrial cold-weather work.
