The sediment cartridges (Stages 1 and 2) are NSF 42 certified melt blown polypropylene. The carbon block (Stage 3) is NSF 42 and NSF 61 certified coconut shell activated carbon. All certifications are for material safety requirements.
Filter Construction and Staging
Stage 1: 20 Micron Sediment Filtration
The first stage uses a 20 micron melt blown polypropylene cartridge to capture larger particles including sand, silt, rust, and scale before they reach the finer downstream filters. The polypropylene fibers are thermally bonded without binders or adhesives, which makes them chemically resistant and resistant to bacterial growth. By removing coarse sediment first, this stage extends the service life of Stages 2 and 3.
Stage 2: 5 Micron Sediment Filtration
The second stage removes finer suspended particles that pass through the 20 micron first stage. The same thermally bonded melt blown construction provides high dirt-holding capacity with low pressure drop. Together, Stages 1 and 2 ensure that only very fine particles reach the carbon block.
Stage 3: 0.5 Micron Carbon Block Filtration
The final stage uses a 0.5 micron coconut shell activated carbon block to reduce dissolved chlorine, taste, and odor through chemical adsorption. Coconut shell carbon delivers high chlorine reduction capacity with minimal carbon fines. Because Stages 1 and 2 have already removed the sediment load, the carbon block can focus on chemical reduction rather than clogging with particulates, which extends its service life.
